Biodiversity - Variety of life

Primary Science
Discover wildlife in your school

Wild Tally

You will find many species of animal and plant in your school grounds, some will live there and others such as birds may be feeding there.

Wild tally involves simply counting the different species, you don't need to identify them you just need to know that each is different from the others.

Count:
Grasses, trees and other plants.
Invertebrates found in your traps, under logs, on plants, or seen flying.
Birds seen or evidence of birds such as feathers.
Mammals seen or evidence such as droppings.

Depending on the season you should find at least 20 minibeasts, 10 birds and 20 plants.

You could of course identify each species and maybe create an information card for each.

See the interdependence page if you want to do more.
