Discover wildlife in your school

The Bug Man - Martin Rapley FRES FBNA was Education Officer for Essex Wildlife Trust. He developed an intensive programme of educational activity days for schools at Fingringhoe Wick Nature Reserve and Conservation Centre near Colchester. He also created Wildlife Discovery Days for children at weekends and during all school holidays and discovery evenings for youth groups. These attracted over 6000 children each year.

In 2003, after 15 years with the Trust, Martin decided to leave to launch Martin Rapley - Experience Science Live!

He now presents science shows in schools and events which are seen by over 50,000 people each year. Martin is known as The Bug Man but as well as The Big Bug Experience he presents shows that include many other animals. He also presents Animal Vision Shows at the Natural History Museum.

His shows include:

The Big Bug Experience - A real educational experience featuring scorpions, tarantula, flying stick insects, hissing cockroaches, flying cockroach, giant African millipedes, leaf insects and more.


Reptiles and Amphibians - Featuring tree frog, fire bellied toads, salamander, green iguana, bearded dragon, rat snake, milk snake and chameleon.


The Reptiles Show - Bearded dragon, green iguana, chameleon, rat snake, milk snake, royal python, leopard gecko.


The Rainforest Show - Rainforest cockroaches, green iguana, chameleon, snake, giant millipedes, praying mantis, stick/leaf insects, tarantula, rainforest scorpion.


Animal Variety Insects (stick insects and cockroaches)  Arachnids (tarantula and scorpion)  Myriapods (giant African millipedes)  Reptiles (bearded dragon and rat snake)  Amphibians  (tree frog)  Mammals (Harvest mouse or African pygmy hedgehog).
